I recently heard that our town is trying to spend tax dollars on buying art to hang in the local jail. I’m not sure how I feel about that. A lot of people are in an uproar, saying that the prisoners don’t deserve anything extra, or special, and art falls into that category. However, I’ve heard that the art isn’t going to be displayed where the prisoners see it, but rather out in the front, where visitors come. When I picture a child going to visit their dad or mom in prison, then yeah, I guess it wouldn’t be a bad thing for it to look pleasant for them. But, no, I don’t think any of our tax money should go for more extras for prisoners. They already get DIRECTV cable, I heard. And honestly, if you ask me, prisoners don’t need to watch television. Mostly because I think we are already spending a ton of money to keep prisoners fed, clothed, housed, etc. I think books are reasonable, because unused books can be donated and not cost tax money.
